CHINA CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY WORLD STUDIES

On December 15-16, CCCWS sponsored Annual Meeting Of CCCWS In 2011 And Symposium On International Situation in Bejing. The event was supported by China Economic Cooperation Center (CECC). Mr. Wang Jiarui, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC) and Honorary Chairman of the CCCWS Council made a apeech at the Meeting. CCCWS President Yu Hongjun addressed the Meeting. Nearly one hundred representatives including CCCWS Council Members and Research Fellows, Special Council Members and Special Research Fellows, specially invited experts and people from relevant units of IDCPC participated in the Meeting. And people from institutions inside and outside Beijing such as the Central Party School, China Academy of Social Sciences, National Defence University, China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, Beijing University, T       singhua University, Remin University of China, and Shanghai Institutes for International Studies were at the Meeting. Journalists from Xinhua News Agency, China News Service reported on the Meeting and Symposium.

 Mr. Wang Jiarui, Minister of IDCPC and Honorary Chairman of the CCCWS Council made a apeech at the Meeting. 

Minister Wang Jiarui said that China was a developing country with fast growth and more and more influence on regional and international affairs. The general diplomacy of our country did not only require the foreign affairs departments of the Party and government to actively play their roles, but also need extensive participation and support of all social sectors especially ideological and academic circles. CCCWS should have full play of its role, actively mobilize domestic academic forces of all aspects to participate in the designing of the diplomatic dicision- making, strengthen the exchanges and cooperation of think tanks both at home and abroad, conduct thorough and deep research on the world future development trend and international environment in front of our national development, try to make more objective, acurate and scientific judgement, and provide high-level intellectual support for the long-term development of the general diplomacy of our country and foreign affairs of our Party.

Dr. Yu Hongjun expressed gratitude to the experts and scholars for their strong support and cordination to CCCWS’ work in the past year, and expected them to render further support, so as to make CCCWS more influential.

CCCWS Deputy Director-General Kong Genhong summed up CCCWS’ work for the whole year. He said that after one year of its establishment, CCCWS has made use of the operation and management experience of both domestic and international think tanks and research institutions, actively conducted external exchanges, and established cooperation with some influential think tanks abroad.

In the group discussions of the Symposium, the experts and scholars conducted warm and deep discussions on characteristics of the international and regional situation in 2011, situation of surounding areas of China, review and prospects for China’s foreign affairs, international political trend of thoughts and political party politics, regional situation and the world economy. They held the views as follows: the international situation was full of turmoils and chaos in 2011, regional turbulences were deteriorating, international financial crisis and sovereign debt crisis deeply impacted regional and world economy, natural disasters and social disturbances were lingering around, global polarization and social inequality were worsening, many spheres like internaitonal pattern, economic development and social governance were faced with indepth adjustment.
