CHINA CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY WORLD STUDIES

On December 6^th, the 5^th Charhar Public Diplomacy Conference 2014 jointly organized by Charhar Institute and Nanfang Media Group was convened in the Exhibition Center of Dongyang, Zhejiang Province. Themed “New Asia, New Diplomacy”, the conference gathered explorers and practitioners of public diplomacy theories from political, academic, business and social communities, including more than 140 attendants from Charhar Institute, Nanfang Media Group, China Public Diplomacy Association, Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs, China Foundation for Peace and Development, China Center for Contemporary World Studies, China Foreign Affairs University, Center for International Communication Studies, Korean Institute of International Cultural Exchanges, etc. Zhao Minghao and Huang Rui, who are Fellows at China Center for Contemporary World Studies, also attended related forums.

This conference held two thematic forums, “‘One Belt and One Road’ and Neighboring Diplomacy” and “BCIM Economic Corridor and Public Diplomacy”. The forum on ‘One Belt and One Road’ and Neighboring Diplomacy discussed how to support One Belt and One Road with public diplomacy, how to create a favorable international environment and how to put public diplomacy into better play. The forum on BCIM Economic Corridor and Public Diplomacy focused on practices of public diplomacy in Bangladesh, China, India and Myanmar, China’s vision on public diplomacy in building BCIM Economic Corridor and how can China promote the corridor through public diplomacy.

Charhar Public Diplomacy Conference, founded in 2010, is an annual conference specializing on pragmatic and theoretical public diplomacy research jointly organized by Charhar Institute and Nanfang Media Group. The former four conferences were respectively held in Shanghai, Guangzhou, Zhangjiakou and Beijing and received popular interest.
