CCCWS President Yu Hongjun Met with President Hardman of the US Carter Center

On August 20 in Beijing, CCCWS President Yu Hongjun met with Dr. John Hardman, President and CEO of the Carter Center of the US. The two sides exchanged views on China-US relations, the US presidential election and think tank exchanges. Also present at the meeting were Mr. Liu Yawei, Director of the China Program of the Carter Center, Mr. Curtis Kolhas, Chief Development Officer of the Carter Center, CCCWS Deputy Director-General Hu Hao, and Mr. Cui Yongqian, Deputy Secretary-General of Beijing Peace Tour Cultural Exchange Center.

Dr. Yu Hongjun said that the current international situation has been experiencing the unprecedented and deep changes. The development trend of the China-US relations has kept positive on the whole. However, many changes have taken place in the China-US relationship while maintaining basic stability. China’s rapid development is not a challenge but an opportunity for the US. The former US President Carter is not only a brilliant politician known well by the Chinese people but also an old friend of China. He has made great contributions to promoting the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and spared no effort to push forward the development of China-US relations for several decades. CCCWS would like to build a long-term and stable cooperation with the Carter Center, through the think tank cooperation, to make contributions to enhancing the understanding of the people of the two countries, and to accelerating the development of China-US relations.

Hardman said that both China and the US are great countries. US-China relationship is very important. Both sides have many important things to do in the field of strengthening cooperation. Through stimulating the exchange and cooperation in education and other spheres, the two sides could enhance the understanding of the two peoples, and promote the development of the US-China relationship. It is beneficial to the people of the two countries and the whole world. The former US President Carter cherished the friendship with China very much. He has always been committed to positively expound and promote the US-China relationship. The Carter Center is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with CCCWS, and make concerted efforts to promote the US-China relationship.

 

After the meeting, Dr. Hardman transferred the English poetry with Carter’s autograph to Dr. Yu Hongjun. Dr. Yu Hongjun gave Dr. Hardman the publications compiled by CCCWS as a present.

CCCWS Deputy Director-General Hu Hao had discussions with President Hardman of the US Carter Center.
