CHINA CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY WORLD STUDIES

On May 23^rd, CCCWS staged the third of its lecture series titled the Contemporary World and China. Ms. Sun Haiyan, Director General of CCCWS, presided over the lecture, which focused on China Communist Party (CCP)’s Party-Building since its 18^th National Congress. The guest of today’s lecture was Professor Bruce Dickson from Political Science and International Affairs, The George Washington University of US.

Prof. Bruce Dickson makes a briefing on Western academia’s perceptions of the internal and external challenges facing the CCP, and the prospective strategies for the Party to tackle the challenges.

In the ensuing free discussions, the two sides exchange views on the different interpretations of democracy in China and the West, the preference of goals in terms of social development, etc.
