CCCWS And SIPRI Co-hosted A Workshop Titled CHINESE AND NORDIC PERSPECTIVES ON ARCTIC DEVELOPMENTS

On 10 May, 2012, CCCWS and Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) of Sweden co-hosted a workshop titled CHINESE AND NORDIC PERSPECTIVES ON ARCTIC DEVELOPMENTS. IDCPC Vice Minister and CCCWS President Yu Hongjun attended the workshop and made a speech. CCCWS Deputy Director-General Hu Hao chaired the workshop, and made a speech titled Necessity Of China And Arctic Issues And Cooperation Opportunity In The Arctic Affairs With Nordic Countries. CCCWS Deputy Director-General Jin Xin, Dr Neil MELVIN, Director of Armed Conflict and Conflict Management Programme of SIPRI, Dr. GUO Peiqing, Professor of Ocean University of China, H.E. Ambassador Hannu HALINEN, Finland’s Arctic Ambassador, Ms Linda JAKOBSON, SIPRI Arctic Team, Director of East Asia Program of Lowy Institute for International Policy chaired separately different sessions of the Workshop. Dr. Jin Xin made the closing remarks.

Ambassador Hannu HALINEN, Finland’s Arctic Ambassador, Dr Neil MELVIN, Director of Armed Conflict and Conflict Management Programme of SIPRI, and Ms Linda JAKOBSON, SIPRI Arctic Team, Director of East Asia Program of Lowy Institute for International Policy.

CCCWS and SIPRI co-hosted a workshop titled CHINESE AND NORDIC PERSPECTIVES ON ARCTIC DEVELOPMENTS.

Present at the workshop were H.E. Friis Arne PETEREN, Ambassador of Denmark to PR China, H.E. Ambassador Andreas von UEXKULL, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sweden, H.E. Ambassador Hannu HALINEN, Finland’s Arctic Ambassador, Dr Neil MELVIN, Director of Armed Conflict and Conflict Management Programme of SIPRI, Ms Linda JAKOBSON, SIPRI Arctic Team, Director of East Asia Program of Lowy Institute for International Policy, and other experts, scholars and officials from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Transportations, State Oceanic Administration of China, Shanghai Institute for International Studies, Tongji University, COSCO Group, and Embassy of Norway in China. The participants held discussions on management of Arctic region, international law and developments of the Arctic region, prospects and uncertainties for the Arctic Passage, and cooperation opportunities between China and the Nordic countries in the Arctic issues.
