CCCWS President Yu Hongjun Meets with the Delegation of Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies

On the afternoon of Nov. 9th in Beijing, CCCWS President Dr. Yu Hongjun met with the delegation of Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies. Both sides exchanged views on China-Turkey relations, situation in the Middle East, Turkey- Europe relations and think-tank cooperation.

Dr. Yu Hongjun spoke positively of China-Turkey relations. He pointed out that both China and Turkey has a long history and splendid culture. China attaches great importance to relations with Turkey. Since 20 years after the end of the Cold War, the international situation has undergone complex and profound changes. China and Turkey face many common issues. The two countries could strengthen coordination in some regional and international affairs. There is big scope for bilateral cooperation. Dr. Yu Hongjun said that the situation in the Middle East is complex and volatile. West Asia and North Africa upheaval has no signs to end. The relevant parties need to make concerted efforts to actively carry out consultations and negotiations, so as to promote regional peace and stability. As to think-tank cooperation, Dr. Yu put forward that the two institutions can cooperate in cosponsoring symposiums, exchanging papers and visiting scholars, so as to promote institutionalized exchanges.

Mr. Suleyman Sensoy, Chairman of Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies, expressed his views on China-Turkey relations and situation in the Middle East. He said that the bilateral relations develop smoothly since the establishment of diplomatic relationship 40 years ago. The two sides have established strategic cooperation. The bilateral exchanges have been characterized by wide fields and multiple levels. As to the situation in the Middle East, Mr. Sensoy pointed out that impact of the “Arab Spring” has spilled over from the Middle East into North Africa and South Asia. Turkey hopes that Syria could restore peace and stability as soon as possible. However, because of battling and hedging of various forces, turmoil in Syria could hardly end in the short time.

 

Also present were CCCWS Deputy Director-General Jinxin, Research Fellow Yang Hongxi, Associate Research Fellow Guo Yamin, and experts from Turkish Asian Center for Strategic Studies Murat BILHAN, Sema KALAYCIOGLU, Nilufer NARLI, Selcuk COLAKOGLU, Muharrem Hilmi OZEV, Hazar VURAL.
