CHINA CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY WORLD STUDIES

On Mar.10 2014, CCCWS Deputy Director-General Dr. Hu Hao met with Ms. Cornelia Sorabji, Head of Research Analysts of the Strategic Department, FCO of UK. The two sides exchanged views on China-UK relations, situation in Ukraine and other issues of common interest.

CCCWS Deputy Director-General Dr. Hu Hao held discussions with Ms. Cornelia Sorabji, Head of Research Analysts of the Strategic Department, FCO of UK.

Dr. Hu says that Ukraine situation has become the focus of the international community. Such a situation was triggered by both internal and external factors. Since it is very complicated and highly sensitive, tackling the issue must involve comprehensive consideration while giving due respect for Ukraine’s national sovereignty and people’s will, considering Russia’s interests, and taking care of Western countries’ concerns. The top priority for all the sides is to keep calm, returning to political solution, properly handling the differences, and avoiding taking the measures that may escalate the crisis. China will continue to take an objective and fair stand. We hope Ukraine’s territorial integrity and national unity will be kept. We would like to make contributions to the political solving of the issue together with the international community.

Ms. Margaret Tongue, First Secretary, and Mr. Stephen Lennard, Second Secretary from the British Embassy to China, and CCCWS Research Fellows Ms. Mou Hong and Mr. Gao Lianjia, Associate Research Fellows Mr. Li Shipeng and Mr. Zhang Weijie, participated in the meeting.
