From Berlin by Xinhuanet.com on 20th Oct.: On the afternoon of Oct. 19^th, IDCPC Vice Minister and CCCWS President Yu Hongjun met with Mr. Michael Georg Link, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office in the Reichstag Building. Both sides exchanged views on the EU economic situation, international situation and China-Germany relations.

Dr. Yu said that the EU is suffering from the financial crisis and the sovereign debt crisis. However, progress has been made with the joint efforts of the EU to deal with the sovereign debt crisis. So the EU still plays an important role in the world economic and political structure. Germany has made great efforts and contributions in the above aspects. China will as always support the stability and development of the Euro zone and the integration process of Europe.

Dr. Yu also said that China-EU and China-Germany relations have good development momentum. The high-level exchanges have been frequent. The pragmatic cooperation in various fields has been pushed forward steadily. Both sides have kept close communication and coordination in the major international and regional issues. It is because of the great foresight of the leaders of the two countries and the joint efforts of the peoples from all walks of life, that China-Germany and China-EU relations have transcended differences in ideology and social system, and have successfully set up the wide bridge of friendship and cooperation. A good China-Germany relationship is not only in conformity with the fundamental interests of the peoples, but also conducive to the development of China-EU relations. Facing the complex and volatile international situation, China and Germany should continue to work together and promote the strategic partnership to develop continuously.

Mr. Link warmly welcomed the delegation led by Dr. Yu Hongjun. He agreed with Dr. Yu’s evaluation of the China-EU and China-Germany relations. He said that the EU member states are trying to work together to address the financial crisis. Although in front of many difficulties, the integration process of Europe and the Euro zone construction will not stagnate and retrogress. So to speak, the prospects of the EU and the Euro zone remain bright. Mr. Link expressed his gratitude for the strong support from China to the development of the Euro zone, and said that he cherishes China’s firm confidence in the Euro.
