From The Hague by Xinhuanet.com on 24th Oct.: On Oct. 23, IDCPC Vice Minister and CCCWS President Dr. Yu Hongjun met with Mr. Ben Knapen, State Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands in The Hague. Both sides exchanged views on China-Holland and China-Europe relations, and the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.

Dr. Yu Hongjun said that the Netherlands is one of the earliest Western countries that recognized the People’s Republic of China. In 1954, the two countries established diplomatic relationship at the charge daffaires level. The bilateral relations started early and had good foundations. Since the establishment of relationship at the ambassadorial level in 1972, although relations between the two countries have undergone setbacks, still great progress has been made. In recent years, the high-level exchanges between China and Holland have been frequent, mutual political trust has continuously been strengthened, the pragmatic cooperation has yielded rich fruit, and the humanity exchanges have been increasingly deepened. The two countries should take the establishment of their diplomatic relationship for 40 years as a new start, inherit the past and usher in the future, make innovations with pioneering spirit and continue to expand cooperative fields, so as to bring more happiness to the peoples.
Mr. Knapen spoke highly of the relations of the two countries and China’s development achievements. And he expressed his admiration and appreciation for China’s actively assisting Europe in dealing with its sovereign debt crisis. Mr Knapen further put forward that at present China-Holland relationship is faced with new opportunities for development. The Dutch side would like to make concerted efforts with the Chinese side to promote the bilateral relations to a new high. In addition, he wished the incoming Eighteenth National Congress of the CPC a complete success.
