CHINA CENTER FOR CONTEMPORARY WORLD STUDIES

On Oct.20^th, in Berlin, CCCWS President Dr. Yu Hongjun held discussions with experts from German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP). The two sides exchanged views on EU internal relations, the prospects of the European integration, EU foreign policy, and think tank cooperation.

After briefing the German experts on the main activities of CCCWS since its inception, Dr. Yu proceeded to express CCCWS’ readiness to conduct cooperation with SWP, taking this visit as a start. Confident in the viability of EU and the Euro, SWP experts shed light on the internal construction of EU and its foreign policy, focusing on the current situation in EU and the prospect of European integration. In addition, SWP experts put forward constructive advice as regards the relations between Europe and China. In his briefing on SWP, Professor and Dr. Volker Perthes, SWP President, touched on the institution’s enlargement of regional research complements, with special focus on China studies. In keeping with this development, SWP is willing to conduct institutionalized contacts with CCCWS, one form of which could be co-sponsored seminars on issues of mutual concern.

Also present at the meeting were: Mr. Liu Jinfeng, Council Member of CCCWS; Mr. Yang Hongxi, Research Fellow of CCCWS; Mr. Yang Deli, Chinese Counselor to Germany; Ms Zheng Junlv, Mr. Gao Yang, Mr Zhao Minghao, Associate Research Fellows of CCCWS; Dr. Kai-Olaf Lang, SWP expert on EU integration; and Dr. Gudrun Wacker, SWP expert on China studies.
