From Rome by Xinhuanet.com on 17^th Oct.: On the 16^th of October in Rome, Italy, Dr. Yu Hongjun, Vice Minister of IDCPC and President of CCCWS met with Mr. Massimo DAlema, President of Fondazione Italianieuropei (Foundation for Italians-Europeans), President of Foundation for European Progress Studies (FEPS) and former Prime Minister of Italy. The two sides exchanged views on the present international situation, China-Italy relations, China-Europe relations along with think tank cooperation.

In recent years, observed Dr. Yu, there have been profound, complicated and drastic changes in global situation. Against such a backdrop, the role and global influence of China-Europe relations have been turning even more prominent. A steady, substantial and long-lasting China-Europe relationship is not only conducive to the social-economic development of both sides, but also conducive to the world peace and stability, and could help mankind to tackle common challenges.

The top priority for European countries, said Mr. Massimo DAlema, is to formulate an effective strategy that can settle the current crisis and contribute to long-term development, while securing a balance between austerity and growth. Mr. DAlema further pointed our that thanks to its great achievements, China has been able to play a more prominent role on the international arena, contributing a great deal to the recovery and growth of the world economy. Italy/Europe-China relations are faced with exceptional opportunities. It is imperative for the two sides to boost their cooperation to a higher level.
