CCCWS President Yu Hongjun Meets with Mr. Romano Prodi, Former President of the European Commission and Former Prime Minister of Italy

From Rome by Xinhuanet.com on 18 Oct.: On the 17th of Oct. in Bologna, Italy, Dr. Yu Hongjun, Vice Minister of IDCPC and President of CCCWS met with Mr. Romano Prodi, Former President of European Commission, Former Prime Minister of Italy and the UN Special Envoy for the Sahel. The two sides exchanged views on international and regional issues, China-Europe relations and cooperation between think tanks.

As the European debt crisis rumbles on, relevant countries are supposed to consolidate their consensus for reform and implement measures to alleviate the difficult situation so as to add dynamism to recovery and sustainable growth, achieving stable economic growth and promoting the integration of EU, remarked Dr. Yu. Dr. Yu proceeded to extend China’s willingness to work together with the European countries to address various challenges so as to bring China-EU strategic partnership to a new horizon.

The creation and construction of EU is the greatest innovation in Europe for the past century. The gravest stage of sovereign debt crisis has passed and EU countries should cooperate and coordinate to ensure the stability of the common currency and consolidate the achievements of recovery, firmly promoting the integration of EU so as to play a more important role in global economy and international affairs, remarked Mr. Prodi.

 

Mr. Prodi further observed that China’s prominent achievements have greatly enhanced its global prestige and its role on the international stage. As the UN Special Envoy for the Sahel, Mr. Prodi voiced his hope for China to continuously pay attention and contribute to the development as well as stability of this region. Mr. Prodi also expressed his hope for further cooperation between the think tanks of both countries so as to make unique contributions to bilateral relations.
