CCCWS Deputy Director-General Hu Hao meets with a journalist from Russian Newspaper Information (Izvestia).

About the Diaoyu Islands dispute, Dr. Hu Hao pointed out that the Diaoyu Islands have been an inherent territory of China since the ancient times. The Japanese authorities openly violated the consensus of “putting the issue of the Diaoyu Islands aside to get it resolved later” that was reached by the leadership of the older generation of both China and Japan, triggering the dispute arbitrarily, and causing the bilateral relations facing unprecedented severe challenges. The Japanese side should bear full responsibility for the current deadlock, even setback in China-Japan relations. Mr. Antonov said that the escalation of the Diaoyu Islands issue is closely related to the US’ strategy of returning to Asia. About the situation in Syria, Dr. Hu Hao said that the internal turbulences of Syria have lasted for a long time, along with the eruption of border conflicts between Syria and Turkey, the future of Syria has drawn special concern of the international society. Mr. Antonov responded that although Turkey takes a tough stance against Syria, Turkey is constrained by many factors. Up to now, there are no signs of the conflicts of the two countries escalating into a war. About the prospect of China-Russia relations, Dr. Hu Hao stressed that the development of the bilateral relationship between China and Russia is based on equality and mutual benefits. The two countries have extensive cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and other fields. And the two countries take the same or similar stance in the international affairs. In the future, there will be very big scope for the cooperation between the two countries, and good prospects for bilateral relations.

At the end of the meeting, Mr. Antonov expressed his hope that the Eighteenth Congress of the CPC would be fully successful.
