From March 13 to 16, Dr. Jin Xin, Director-General of CCCWS, led a delegation to Britain. During the visit, the delegation paid visits to the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Great Britain-China Centre, China-Britain Business Council, 48 Group, Cambridge University, Chatham House, International Institute for Strategic Studies and held discussions with British politicians, government officials, think tankers, media, businessmen about China-Britain cooperation under the framework of the “Belt and Road” Initiative.

Dr. Jin Xin has noted that the “Belt and Road” is an initiative for international cooperation that aims to balance the development between eastern and western parts of China, promote industrialization in neighboring countries and push globalization towards a more balanced and inclusive direction. It’s a kind of public goods that China provides to the global community. China enjoys advantages in capital and cost and Britain excels at technologies and managerial expertise, plus market and labor force strengths in countries along the Belt and Road. China and Britain should work together to conduct third-party cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road and achieve multi-win results.

It is universally agreed on the British side that Britain will not turn inwards after Brexit, instead it will be a more active player in global and regional affairs. Britain is deeply invested in countries along the Belt and Road and it has rich experience in project development and cooperation rules. It is also among the first Western countries to join the AIIB. They agreed that Britain should further match development strategies with China and deepen cooperation centering upon the Belt and Road by setting up inter-government mechanisms.
